MD State Highway Administration - Canton Viaduct I-895, Project Surveyor. Under the direction of Mr. Ruzicka, LS, the survey and mapping team utilized 3-D laser scanning on this project to obtain field information necessary for the deck replacement. Technicians first set aerial targets to allow for a low-level, highly accurate aerial survey to generate base mapping, then utilized 3-D Laser Scanning to collect details of the bridge features and the crossing of I-95 above the I-895 deck for design purposes. Subsequent processing of the 3-D Laser scanned data provided an accurate location of virtually any necessary features pertinent to design in a 3-D CADD format including existing abutments, piers, girders, and traffic barriers. The use of laser scanning on this project decreases safety concerns for survey crews and eliminates the need for lane closures and multiple site visits by the survey crew.
AECOM - Selkirk Yard, Project Manager. Mr. Ruzicka was the project manager for an AECOM project in Bethlehem, New York. The project involved the location of utilities, existing rail and base mapping to facilitate design of an additional rail servicing the facility. The project was fast-track and our team was able to mobilize field crews within one day to the project site. Existing conditions information was collected and forwarded to office technicians for processing each day allowing design to proceed in sections.
Engineering Services for Transportation Facilities, Contract 35404001012. Potomac, MD. Project Surveyor. This $3 million open-end contract involved surveying, planning, environmental, and engineering design services for transportation facilities. Mr. Ruzicka provided supervision of survey crews and drafters, as well as providing quality assurance/quality control on all survey drawings for transportation facilities.
CSX - ALTA Survey Edmonston, Project Manager. Mr. Ruzicka was project manager for CSX project requiring property research, boundary determination for the existing railroad right of way and adjacent properties, topographic survey and stakeout to assist in design for improvements along the CSX corridor in Edmonston, Maryland. The effort included numerous property surveys along the alignment and was interesting because the Dewberry survey team discovered a gap between the adjacent platted property and the railroad property. The land was likely owned by the previous developer. Our team developed exhibits to accompany a quit claim deed to assist in clearing title to the property.
Bridge Design Open-End, BCS 2002-26F. Statewide, MD. Surveyor. Survey team provided structural engineering and full-service mapping support for bridge design and rehabilitation projects under this five-year, $3 million open-end contract. Mr. Ruzicka provided property research, deed mosaic, GPS and convention survey control, boundary determination, and work map preparation for right-of-way determination.
CSX - Ellicott City, MD , Project Manager. Mr. Ruzicka managed the base mapping effort for a CSX emergency project in Ellicott City, Maryland. Mapping was required along a short section of the corridor to enable design engineers to modify the condition of a failed structure. Our team mobilized almost immediately and provided the mapping swiftly so that the design and mitigation was not delayed.
George Washington Memorial Parkway Alexander's Point (Columbia Island) Bridge Project. Arlington, VA. Project Surveyor. Project involved design and construction documents for a new 375-foot long, five-span, pre-stressed concrete beam bridge over Boundary Channel in Arlington County, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Mr. Ruzicka supervised the establishment of horizontal and vertical control for aerial surveys, supplemental topographic surveys; gathered hydraulic data including a bathymetric survey of the existing Boundary Channel; and performed deed research to determine property line locations for base plan mapping.
